If you've never heard of EFT Tapping before, you're in for a pleasant surprise.
Tapping is one of those techniques that sounds a little unusual until you try it - and then you wonder how you went so long without it. It's simple, it's free, it requires no equipment and it works remarkably quickly for releasing stress, anxiety and the emotional patterns that keep us feeling stuck.
What is EFT Tapping?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique - a gentle but powerful practice that combines elements of cognitive therapy with acupressure.
It works by tapping on specific meridian points on the body - the same energy pathways used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture - while focusing on whatever you want to clear. This combination of physical tapping and focused attention sends a calming signal directly to the amygdala - the part of the brain responsible for the stress response - effectively interrupting the pattern and allowing the nervous system to reset.
What makes EFT particularly powerful is that it works on both the physical and energetic level simultaneously. It doesn't just help you manage stress intellectually - it actually helps clear it from the body, which is where so much of our stress, anxiety and old emotional patterns are stored.
What Can EFT Help With?
EFT is widely used for a broad range of emotional and physical concerns, including:
- Acute stress and anxiety
- Phobias and fears
- Old beliefs and behavioural patterns that feel hard to shift
- Emotional overwhelm
- Physical tension held in the body
- Performance anxiety
- Grief and emotional processing
- Self-worth and confidence issues
It's also completely safe, non-invasive and can be done anywhere - at home, at work or even in the car before a stressful meeting.
Watch: Tapping for Stress Relief
In this video I guide you through a simple EFT Tapping sequence specifically for stress and anxiety relief. It takes just a few minutes and can be done daily or whenever you need a quick reset.
The Basic Tapping Points
If you'd like to practice on your own after watching the video, here are the main tapping points used in EFT:
Starting with the Karate Chop point on the side of the hand - this is where you begin by acknowledging what you're feeling and setting up the practice.
Then moving through: the top of the head, the beginning of the eyebrow, the side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, the chin point, the collarbone point and under the arm.
Tap gently but firmly on each point - around five to seven taps per point - while staying focused on the feeling or belief you're working to release.
