Reiki is one of those things that can be difficult to fully understand until you experience it. But once you do, most people wonder how they went so long without it.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle yet powerful Japanese energy healing technique - the word itself translates to "Universal Life Force Energy." It's based on the understanding that we are all made of energy, and that when that energy becomes blocked, stagnant or out of balance, it affects us on every level - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
This concept isn't unique to Japan. Cultures throughout history have recognised and worked with this same life force energy - known as Chi or Qi in Chinese medicine, Prana in Hindu tradition and by many other names across many other cultures. What they all share is the understanding that by working with this energy, we can support the body's own natural healing ability and restore a sense of wholeness and balance.
Reiki is non-invasive, deeply relaxing and works on every level simultaneously - body, mind and spirit. It doesn't require you to believe in anything in particular to benefit from it. It simply requires a willingness to receive.

The Benefits of Reiki
Reiki can bring healing and positive shifts to virtually every area of life. Some of the most commonly experienced benefits include:
Stress and anxiety relief - one of the most immediate and consistent effects of Reiki is a profound sense of calm and release. Many people describe feeling lighter after a session, like they've put down something heavy they didn't even realise they were carrying.
Emotional balance and resilience - Reiki works to release old emotional patterns, beliefs and blockages that have been stored in the energy body. Over time this leads to greater emotional stability, more self-awareness and a deeper sense of inner peace.

Chakra balancing - Reiki works directly with the chakras - the body's main energy centres - clearing blockages and restoring balanced energy flow throughout the system.

Physical support - Reiki engages the body's own natural healing ability, supporting physical recovery and overall wellbeing. While it is not a replacement for medical treatment, many people find it a deeply supportive complement to conventional healthcare.

Is Reiki Right for You?
Reiki is genuinely beneficial for anyone - at any stage of life and any level of health or wellbeing. It's not something you need to be in crisis to benefit from. Many people use Reiki as a regular practice for maintaining overall health, clarity and balance - not just in difficult moments.

What Does a Reiki Session Feel Like?
This is one of the most common questions I receive - and the honest answer is that every person's experience is different.
Reiki is gentle but its effects can be profound. During a session you may experience warmth, tingling, pulsing or a sense of energy moving through your body. You may feel deeply relaxed - some people drift into a meditative state, see colours or imagery, or feel emotions rising and releasing as blockages clear. Others experience something much more subtle - simply a quiet sense of calm and a feeling of coming back to themselves.
If you are sensitive to energy, you may feel things quite strongly - occasionally an emotion or sensation becomes slightly more present as it comes to the surface before being released. This is completely normal and is simply the healing process in action.
Whatever you experience is exactly right for you. Reiki always works for your highest good - trust the process and allow it to unfold in whatever way it needs to.

Distance Reiki - How Does It Work?
After years of working with in-person clients, Distance Reiki is what I now specialise in - and it is just as powerful as an in-person session.
Distance Reiki works on the understanding that energy is not limited by physical space - it can be directed and received across any distance. You don't need any special technology, phone calls or equipment. You simply lie down at your appointed time, in the comfort of your own home, and allow the healing energy to flow to you.
Many clients find distance sessions particularly powerful because you're in your own space - relaxed, comfortable and completely free to go as deep into the experience as you need to. There's no travel, no clinical environment and no pressure. Just space to receive.
Sessions are available worldwide - no matter where you are.

Choosing a Reiki Practitioner
If you're looking for an in-person Reiki session locally, here are a few things worth considering:
Look for experience and genuine reviews from real clients. Ask about their training and lineage - a Reiki Master of traditional Usui lineage has completed the highest level of formal Reiki training and has made a life-long commitment to personal development and healing practice.
Trust your instincts - the right practitioner will feel right. You should feel safe, comfortable and genuinely cared for.
