What is Amethyst?
Amethyst is a variety of Quartz - its beautiful purple colour comes from traces of iron and aluminium within the crystal structure, combined with natural irradiation over millions of years. It's found in many parts of the world, with some of the most well known deposits in Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia and Madagascar.
The colour ranges from pale lilac to deep violet - and each shade carries the same gentle, powerful energy that Amethyst has been treasured for throughout history.
Amethyst Meaning & Properties
Amethyst has been prized since ancient times - by the Greeks, the Egyptians, royalty and healers across cultures - and its reputation has only grown. The name comes from the ancient Greek word meaning "not intoxicated" - it was believed to protect against the effects of overindulgence and keep the mind clear and focused.

Natural Amethyst vs Chevron Amethyst - What's the Difference?
You may have noticed we stock a few different varieties of Amethyst - here's a quick guide:
Natural Amethyst is your classic purple Amethyst - ranging from pale lavender to deep violet. This is the most widely available and versatile variety, wonderful for all of the properties listed above.
Chevron Amethyst combines Amethyst with White Quartz in distinctive V-shaped banding. It's considered a more powerful variety - the Quartz amplifies the Amethyst's energy, adding extra cleansing and protective properties.
Amethyst Clusters radiate energy outward in all directions, making them wonderful for filling a room with calm, high vibration energy. A beautiful addition to any living space or sacred area.
How to Use Amethyst
There are so many ways to bring Amethyst into your life - here are our favourites:
For sleep - place an Amethyst tumble on your bedside table or tuck one under your pillow. Even simply having it in your bedroom creates a calmer, more peaceful atmosphere.

Caring for Your Amethyst
Amethyst is relatively low maintenance but does have one important care note - it can fade in prolonged direct sunlight. Avoid leaving it on a sunny windowsill for extended periods.
